Shorter Hair for Hotter Weather

If you have been following my instagram (@stephyfung) you would know I have been travelling for the past month - hence the lack of posts. Let's start off with an update of my change in hairstyle and colour.

Above: my old hairstyle - natural hair colour

I wanted to try a shorter hairstyle for a while because I was growing out my hair patiently for 6 months. The style is an A-line bob and I wanted to make sure that the front layers were predominantly longer.

First off the hairdresser cut off my hair to the A-line style. I also made sure that he feathered the bottom of my hair because my hair is very thick.

This is probably every girl's nightmare seeing all their hair on the floor.

He then bleached my hair to get my hair to at least an orange colour. If you read my post last year about my DIY mermaid hair you would know that asian hair is very hard to lift so I had no choice but to bleach it. Besides I wanted to get an ashy colour rather than be a burning ginger.

40 minutes later - I am that burning ginger...however he toned it and made it into a more ashier tone.

Ashy tone: getting rid of any brassiness in the hair.

Let me tell you this - this hair style requires a lot of straightening unless God gave you pin straight hair. My hair tends to flick from all different sides if it isn't long so I do have to straighten it when I go out.

On a good note - my hair has never felt so refreshed and free especially when I was living in such a humid and hot city.

I had it done in Hong Kong because it is a lot cheaper to cut and dye hair because there's a hairdresser on every corner in mong kok so the hairdressing industry is quite saturated. Also, the hairdresser would also know how to treat asian hair much better than in the UK.

Above: This is a month later from the hair change and as you can see it looks a lot ginger than prior photos. This is probably because:
  1. ashy tones wash out very easily - I will need to apply some purple/silver shampoo onto it to maintain the ashy tone.
  2. I have been in the sun quite a lot after this hair cut and the sunlight always makes my hair lighter in the summer.
Of course this is only halfway to where i want my hair to be - my goal is to have ashy blonde by the end of this summer. I think I will stick to using the hairdressers because they will help me get to the colour I want faster and also in a healthier way.

I did bleach my own hair last year however after a few months my hair felt pretty dry even if I did do hair masks and I had to chop a fair amount off. So look out for my next hair update and I will be posting about my travels very soon after I have finished being a couch potato at home - joking - I have been very hands on since returning back to London.

As always thank you for reading, any other tips for maintaining ashy tones would be appreciated.
